Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
- Time spent on viewed pages
- A referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help analytics services combine traffic information, such as popular pages and points where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though parts of the website may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted search to the selected partner
- Finding and resolving performance or technical faults
- Operating the site and keeping pages responsive
- Measuring which material visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not store, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Montgomery County material here explains how to approach the Sheriff, the proper court clerk, DCJS Personal Record Review, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. A query submitted through a partner is governed by that company's privacy policy. The partner, not us, sets its retention and sharing rules. Review those terms before entering information.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Montgomery County Sheriff, New York Courts, DCJS, legal-help resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate those systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and page performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to them
- Advertising networks serving material on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard security measures protect the information we collect. No online system can be guaranteed secure, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary by residence and applicable law. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs requests to public agencies, while Executive Law §837 limits dissemination of state criminal-history records. Neither law turns this private site into a government records custodian. For data we actually hold, you may:
- Request deletion of information tied to you
- Ask what personal information we retain
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain forms of processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.
